Week 1 Wrap Up:

First and foremost, what a weekend of football! We saw blowouts, upsets, and nail biters including one overtime game. Who is excited to have football back?!

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Atlanta Falcons 32-6. If you’re an eagles fan, I don’t know how you didn’t wake up this morning excited and hopeful for the future.

I thought it would be a high scoring game on both sides of the scoreboard. I was right about one of them, as the Eagles tied for their most points in a Week 1 matchup since 2014 (tied with Week 1 of 2019). Meanwhile the Falcons showed that their redzone struggles are not a thing of the past, scoring only two field goals in two red zone trips.

Two big takeaways from the game were the Eagles ability to spread the ball, and the youth of this team. Seven players logged at least one catch and we saw 3 players with 7+ rush attempts. The oldest player to score for the birds on Sunday was TE Dallas Goedert who is 26 years of age. Other TD scorers included rookie WR DeVonta Smith (22), rookie RB Kenny Gainwell (22), and 2nd year WR Jalen Reagor (22). Oh and by the way, the guy throwing the ball is 23.

The lack of experience could cost them a few games down the line. That remains to be seen. But a great performance from such a young core is something to be hopeful about. They will need to rely on Eagles veterans like Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson andFletcher Cox for experience.

It’s hard not to be excited after a blowout win on the road in Week 1. But I encourage everyone to take a step back. It was the Atlanta Falcons whose defense ranked 19th in 2020 and it is Week 1 after all. Next week we take on the San Francisco 49ers who are coming off a blowout win themselves and have a tougher defense. That was put on display this week when Dre Greenlaw intercepted Jared Goff and took it back for six.

But they’re coming to our house, Lincoln Financial Field. A place that is sure to be rockin’. Who’s going to the game? Let us know or tag us in a post/story on Sunday and we will get you on the page.

For now, enjoy the win and let us know your thoughts below! Share with your fellow Eagles fans and let’s build this nest.

A nest to a bird is a place to call home. A place to relax. A place to talk football.
