Featured Player of the Week
Our featured player this week is likely to be more well know as he is entering his 12th season with the Philadelphia Eagles . Perhaps you remember him as the player who strip sacked Tom Brady in Super Bowl LII, late in the fourth quarter. It would go on to be the lone sack of the game, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. After forcing the NE Patriots to use their remaining timeouts, Jake Elliot would drill the 46-yard field goal to put the Eagles up 41-33. Which would go on to be the final score.
The Eagles traded a first, and two, third round picks to the Denver Broncos in order to select Brandon Graham 13th overall in the 2010 NFL draft.
The former Michigan Wolverine has recorded 59 sacks and 19 forced fumbles over his career, and made his first pro bowl appearance in 2020.
Although Graham came close to signing a contract with division rival New York Giants in 2015, he and the Eagles agreed to terms to keep him in Philadelphia. A couple of additional extensions will keep Graham in Philly through at least the 2022 season, making him the longest tenured defensive player on the team. It is always special for a player to spend majority, if not all, of their career with one organization, for both parties.
Unfortunately, he will have to lead this team from the sidelines this season, after incurring a season ending Achilles injury in Week 2. It’s undoubtedly a devastating injury to the team.
Injuries are something that is all too familiar for this team. Something they’ve proven they can overcome. I expect BG to keep his positive attitude and remain a mentor for this young team.
